All Inspired Art
Mural by Lucas - VOTD
In an age of internet social networking, digital marketing, and remote meetings, the archaic practice of “beating the pavement” has all but disappeared. I’m not exactly mad about it. Who wants aggressive solicitors at their front door? Not me, and I have the expressive no soliciting sign to prove it. However, there is something to be said about the loss of spontaneous human interaction. Well, I recently decided that it was time to get out there, and so, I choked back disgust for so-called “hustle culture,” threw cold water in my face, and started walking. One may understand the words of a particular piece of advice without grasping the complete meaning. That's exactly what I realized about the advice “selling yourself.” After a few hours on my first day, I quickly realized that I was not there to sell art or pitch a mural, but to introduce myself to the community. Man, did it pay off!
Walking and looking at these places through the lens of “community” rather than a potential customer placed me in a different mindset. One that allowed me to recognize the human element first and the opportunity to make a new friend. Walking with a purpose and with an open mind allowed me to discover several great locally owned businesses and meet great people.
One such person is Emily Albright, the owner of All Inspired Art studio. She and I immediately hit it off, which has led to a creative collaboration that is quickly growing. Emily is an artist specializing in illustration and painting, which has garnered an impressive following online and in the classroom. Along with a boutique filled with local artisans and creatives, All Inspired Art is an artist makerspace and studio offering classes in a variety of creative media as well as open studio hours for artists. This is not your typical “sit-n-sip” environment. AIA's goal is to inspire, teach, and support local artisans in the community. When you open a booth in the boutique or instruct a class, you will be surrounded by a community cheering you on. Emily and her daughter, Abby, the store manager, have brought something truly unique to the Katy, Texas area.
I will be teaching classes in character design and illustration with more courses to come. Did someone say the art of murals? Not yet, but it would make sense as a muralist…
Mark your calendars for September 19-20 for the grand opening of All Inspired Art. The new creative hub in Katy, Texas. “A home for all mediums, all ages, and all stages.”
